The session may cover identifying the meter, test strips, lancet and lancing device; preparing the device and compatible supplies; obtaining and applying the blood sample; reading the result and recognizing common meter or strip errors; recording readings; cleaning and storage; and safe disposal of used lancets.

The session may cover identifying the device and its components; preparing or priming it when required; positioning it correctly; using a spacer when prescribed or recommended; completing the after-use steps in the medication instructions; checking a dose counter when present; and cleaning, closing and storing the inhaler and its accessories.
Choose this session if you are starting a prescribed inhaler, have changed to a different device or want your current technique reviewed. Patients and caregivers can use the session to clarify practical questions about the prescribed device.

This appointment provides practical teaching for a medication that has already been prescribed for self-injection. The nurse bases the session on the prescription, pharmacy label, product instructions and supplies for that medication.
Teaching may include preparing the injection device, handling needles and other sharps safely, using an appropriate sharps-disposal container, and knowing when to contact the pharmacist or prescribing professional. When appropriate, you may demonstrate the technique back to the nurse.
Choose this session if you have a prescribed self-injection treatment and need help learning how to use the supplied pen, syringe or other injection device. A caregiver involved in supporting the treatment may also need teaching.
