Glucose Monitoring

Bina Medical Clinic provides spot glucometer testing and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus continuous glucose monitoring in Brossard. The nursing team applies the FreeStyle Libre sensor and helps connect it to a compatible smartphone. Medical interpretation, diagnosis and treatment are not included unless a separate physician service or applicable weight-management follow-up is booked.

Spot glucose testing with a glucometer

A glucometer measures blood glucose, also called blood sugar, using a small capillary blood sample, usually from a finger prick. It gives a reading at the time of the test.

This appointment is useful when a single measurement is needed. It does not show glucose patterns throughout the day and is different from a laboratory blood test used in a medical assessment.

Choose this appointment if you need a one-time glucose reading, including a reading recommended as part of your existing care plan.

If your goal is to find out whether you have diabetes or to investigate symptoms, ask which medical assessment or laboratory testing you need. A glucometer reading alone does not diagnose diabetes.

What to know before booking

The appointment costs CA$10 and is booked for 15 minutes.
The test takes place in person at Bina Medical Clinic in Brossard.
Follow any preparation instructions you have been given. If you are unsure whether fasting is required for your particular request, ask before the appointment.
A reading needs context. Meals, activity, illness and medication can affect blood glucose. Tell the nursing team about relevant circumstances and any instructions from your treating clinician.
Medical assessment and laboratory testing are separate services. An unexpected result may need further assessment.

FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor application

‍

FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus is a continuous glucose monitoring sensor, often called a CGM. It measures glucose in the fluid beneath the skin and sends readings every minute to a compatible device. Routine scanning is not needed to receive readings after setup.

At Bina, a nurse applies the sensor to the back of your upper arm, helps pair it with your compatible smartphone and explains the basics of wearing and using it. The sensor can be worn for up to 15 days.

Choose this appointment when a healthcare professional has recommended continuous glucose monitoring and you need help with sensor application and setup.

If you are considering a sensor as part of weight-management care, discuss its suitability with your treating clinician. Contact the clinic before booking if you are unsure whether this appointment is appropriate or whether installation is already included in your care plan.

What to know before booking

‍

The appointment costs CA$125 and is booked for 20 minutes. It includes one sensor, application, smartphone-pairing assistance and basic use and care instructions.
Application takes place in person in Brossard. Wearing the sensor at home does not make this a virtual appointment.
Check your smartphone’s compatibility before booking. Bring the phone you plan to use. Ask the clinic in advance if you intend to use a reader instead; the published smartphone setup service does not establish that a reader is supplied.
Readings do not begin immediately after application. The device requires a 60-minute warm-up.
Finger-prick checks can still be necessary. Follow the device instructions; Abbott requires a finger-prick check when readings or alarms do not match symptoms or expectations.
Medical interpretation is arranged separately. A sensor supplies readings; it does not replace the clinician responsible for your diagnosis and treatment.

The two options answer different questions. A glucometer gives a blood glucose reading at one point in time. A sensor records glucose patterns over time using measurements from the fluid beneath the skin.

CA$10 covers the spot glucometer appointment. CA$125 covers the sensor appointment. These are separate booking options.
A sensor result and a finger-prick result may differ, particularly while glucose is changing quickly, because they measure glucose in different fluids.
Monitoring and diagnosis are different parts of care. Neither option replaces a medical assessment when one is needed.
An existing clinician may remain responsible for your results. Ask how to share your readings and arrange review. A Bina physician consultation is an option if you need one.
