The nurse obtains a small capillary blood sample, generally from a finger prick, and measures it using a glucometer. A single glucose reading can be influenced by when you last ate, recent physical activity, stress, illness, medication and other factors.

If the result is unexpected or does not match how you feel, repeat testing, laboratory analysis or medical assessment may be recommended. Do not change insulin or another medication based only on a website explanation or isolated screening result.

The appointment includes

  • Application of one FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor
  • Help pairing the sensor with a compatible smartphone
  • Basic instructions for starting and using the system
  • General sensor-wear and care instructions

The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus is a small disposable sensor worn on the back of the upper arm for up to 15 days. It measures interstitial glucose and sends readings every minute to a compatible smartphone or reader without routine sensor scanning. Choose the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus option if your healthcare provider recommends continuous glucose monitoring or if it fits into your medical or weight-management plan.

The two options serve different purposes:

  • A spot test provides one immediate measurement.
  • Continuous monitoring shows patterns and changes over time.
  • A spot reading measures capillary blood glucose.
  • The sensor measures interstitial glucose, which can temporarily differ from blood glucose when levels are changing quickly.
  • Neither option independently diagnoses diabetes, prediabetes, hypoglycemia or another medical condition.

A glucometer measures glucose in a small drop of capillary blood obtained from a finger prick. It provides one reading representing your glucose level at that moment. The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor measures glucose in the interstitial fluid beneath the skin. It sends updated readings every minute to a compatible smartphone or reader, allowing you to observe glucose levels and trends throughout the day and night for up to 15 days.
