Overview

Gentle removal of earwax buildup to improve hearing and comfort.

What is it?

Ear irrigation uses warm water (or saline) to soften and flush out earwax from the ear canal. It is performed by a nurse using a controlled technique to reduce the risk of injury. If irrigation is not clinically appropriate, we may recommend an alternate approach or physician assessment.

Good Fit For

  • You have ear fullness, reduced hearing, or discomfort that may be caused by earwax buildup
  • Over-the-counter earwax drops have not helped, or you prefer clinician support
  • You need safe earwax removal before hearing testing or hearing aid fitting
  • You have had earwax buildup before and were advised to have it removed

Not recommended if you have ear pain with fever, active ear infection, ear drainage, a known eardrum perforation, ear tubes, or recent ear surgery. Contact us or book an appointment with one of our medical staff if you are experiencing other symptoms.
