The evaluation may examine:

  • Understanding and use of spoken language
  • Speech sounds, articulation, fluency or voice
  • Reading, writing and language-processing skills
  • Social and functional communication
  • Acquired communication or swallowing difficulties when appropriate

Choose this appointment when formal testing and a more structured assessment are needed for a specific speech, language, communication or swallowing concern. If the evaluation is needed for a school, insurer, workplace or another organization, contact the clinic before booking so the team can confirm whether the appointment and available documentation meet that purpose.

The evaluation may help:

  • Identify communication strengths and difficulties
  • Clarify the main area requiring support
  • Determine whether further testing is appropriate
  • Establish initial therapy priorities
  • Provide practical recommendations and next steps

An informal evaluation is not equivalent to a standardized evaluation. It may not meet formal documentation requirements for schools, insurers, government programs or other organizations. Choose this appointment for a focused, functional assessment when standardized testing is not required. Informal evaluations may be available online when the concern can be assessed reliably by video.

A session may include:

  • Guided speech, language, fluency or voice activities
  • Practice using communication strategies
  • Feedback and adjustments based on performance
  • Support for functional communication at home, school or work
  • Caregiver guidance or activities to practise between sessions

Choose a therapy session when speech-language goals have already been identified through an evaluation or previous care. If the concern has not been assessed, the speech-language pathologist may recommend an evaluation before regular therapy begins. Each session focuses on individualized goals based on the person’s communication needs, age and daily environment.

Children and adolescents:

  • Language development, developmental language disorder and language processing
  • Oral and written language, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and related learning challenges
  • Speech sounds, articulation, lisp, childhood apraxia, fluency, stuttering and voice
  • Social and pragmatic communication, autism and complex communication needs
  • Augmentative and alternative communication
  • Executive-function-related communication
  • Orofacial myofunctional and swallowing concerns

Adults:

  • Communication difficulties following stroke or another neurological condition
  • Motor-speech concerns, including apraxia and dysarthria
  • Voice, fluency and functional communication
  • Accent modification
  • Swallowing difficulties

Care is adapted to the person’s age, communication needs and daily environment. For children and adolescents, therapy may involve caregiver guidance and strategies for home or school. Adult care may focus on maintaining or rebuilding functional communication for everyday life, relationships and work.

IMPORTANT, Our clinic is not intended for emergency use.
