BPTru is an automated office blood-pressure measurement. A cuff is placed on your arm and the device takes several readings while you remain seated quietly. The readings are combined into an average, reducing the influence of one isolated measurement.
Ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring, abbreviated as ABPM, uses a portable cuff and recorder worn for approximately 24 hours. The cuff inflates automatically at scheduled intervals during daytime activities and sleep. The resulting report shows how blood pressure changes outside the clinic. A physician may recommend ABPM even after BPTru when more information is needed outside the clinic environment.

Choose the BPTru option when you want repeated automated blood-pressure readings completed during one clinic visit. Automated repeated readings can reduce short-term variation and some of the anxiety-related effect associated with a single office measurement.
This appointment does not include diagnosis of hypertension, medication adjustment, laboratory testing or a physician consultation.

Choose the ABPM option when a full day and night of blood-pressure information has been requested or is appropriate within your assessment pathway. Ambulatory monitoring provides more information than one office reading, but it does not independently determine the cause of elevated or reduced blood pressure.
A credit card may be held while the ambulatory monitor is on loan. Repair or replacement charges may apply if the device is lost, damaged or not returned according to the clinic’s instructions. Confirm the loan and return conditions before installation.

Blood pressure changes naturally throughout the day. This is why positioning, repeated measurements and the circumstances surrounding each reading matter. A single number should not be interpreted without context.
