This appointment is for ultrasound-guided joint aspiration when arthrocentesis has been determined to be clinically appropriate. The procedure removes fluid from a joint using a needle while ultrasound is used to locate the fluid and guide needle placement. Arthrocentesis does not always establish why fluid accumulated. When analysis is required, the sample may be sent to a laboratory to assess it further. Laboratory fees are not included in the procedure price. A separate follow-up may be required to review the results and determine the next steps.

This appointment is for a cortisone injection when the treatment has been selected following an appropriate medical assessment. Cortisone is a corticosteroid medication used to address inflammation at a clinically identified joint target. If the cause of the symptoms, treatment target or suitability of cortisone has not been established, book an Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Consultation first.

This appointment is for ultrasound-guided injection of a viscosupplement into a joint when this option has been selected as part of the care plan. Viscosupplements contain hyaluronic acid and may be considered for certain osteoarthritis-related joint symptoms. Viscosupplementation is not suitable for every joint concern. If the diagnosis or treatment plan has not been established, an orthopedic assessment may be required before the procedure can be booked.
