Psychoeducation focuses on how a person understands and adapts to the demands of everyday life. A psychoeducator considers the person’s emotions, behaviour, attention, executive functioning, abilities, needs and environment, then helps identify practical strategies that can be used at home, at school, at work or in relationships.
Psychoeducation is different from seeing a psychologist. A psychoeducator generally focuses on functional adaptation, learning, behaviour, development and practical strategies in everyday settings. A psychologist may provide psychological assessment, psychotherapy and treatment for mental-health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma or other emotional difficulties, depending on their training and professional authorization. In some cases, psychoeducation and psychological care can complement each other.
Support may focus on:
Choose this service when a child or teenager is having difficulty with emotions, behaviour, attention, organization, relationships, routines or adjustment at home or school. The format can involve work with the caregiver, the child or both, depending on the concern and the goals established with the specialist.
Recommendations are adapted to the child’s development and the family’s circumstances rather than based on one standard parenting method. The goal is to give the family practical strategies that can be used between sessions to support communication and carry over therapy goals into daily routines.
Adult psychoeducation can address:
Choose an individual session when emotions, behaviour, attention or changes in daily functioning are making it difficult to manage responsibilities, relationships or routines. The first appointment is used to understand the main concern, the situations in which it occurs and the effect it has on everyday life. Ania then works with you to identify realistic goals and strategies suited to your circumstances. Follow-up can be used to review which strategies were helpful, address obstacles and adjust the plan.
Ongoing follow-up can be used to
Choose a package when continued follow-up is expected and you want several appointments reserved for work on an established psychoeducational goal. Packages can support gradual practice, review and adjustment instead of trying to address the entire concern in one meeting.
Packages are available at $550 for five sessions or $995 for ten sessions. The appropriate number and frequency of sessions depend on the person’s needs, goals and response to the plan. Confirm package expiry, cancellation and scheduling conditions with our team before purchase.
